Dr.Steven Moore, LMHC, NCC, PhDLicensed Counselor
Steve has worked in the mental health field for over 14 years. He has served as a licensed mental health counselor since 2009. He has made it his life mission to counsel individuals (i.e., children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults) and help them elicit positive changes in their lives. He was formerly employed at a sexual assault/domestic violence agency and provided individual, group, family, and couple counseling. More recently, he was employed as a clinical therapist for over 9 years at a community mental health agency. He has helped individuals to overcome symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and other debilitating and annoying disorders.
Steve knows that life can be a difficult journey to navigate at times. With this in mind, he primarily follows a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) involves challenging and changing negative thought patterns and using new thought patterns to guide future behaviors. Initially though, negative thought patterns must be explored and clarified. He provides a safe and trusting environment for the individual to talk and be heard without judgment. He uses spontaneous and relevant techniques (i.e., role-play, humor, guided imagery, exposure, etc.) to accentuate the therapeutic experience. Defining life goals, short- and long-term, is also very important in the healing process.
Steve resides in Lake County with his wife of 34 years. Although their children have left the nest, their 6 kitties and 1 dog keep them busy and content. He is looking forward to helping individuals overcome life distractions and find peace and contentment in their lives.
